(also known as 101 York Road) Towson, Maryland

The Aspen Heights student housing project is set on 2.7 acres in the dynamic landscape of Towson, Maryland. D.W. Kozera, Inc. (DWK) collaborated with DMS Development on the project and provided geotechnical engineering services throughout design and construction. This 13-story beacon of modern living houses 611 beds to support Towson University. With over 498,000 square feet, including a 187,800 square foot below-grade parking facility, the project value was $55,000,000.00.
DWK provided a comprehensive subsurface investigation and recommended that the building be supported on spread footings with a design bearing pressure of 10,000 psf underlain by the Disintegrated Rock of the Baltimore Gneiss Formation. The need for efficient use of space in this urban corridor required underpinning of an adjacent hotel’s foundations and a permanent grade separation wall of up to 25-ft. deep, which was designed by DWK.
In addition to design work, DWK provided construction observation and testing of soils, footings, retaining walls, and post-tension slabs which contributed to the success of the project. DWK was proud to collaborate with the project team throughout design and construction to help create this vibrant student-living community in Towson, Maryland.
