D.W. Kozera, Inc. (DWK) was the Geotechnical Engineer of Record for the $55 million Carver Center for Arts and Technology Replacement School in Towson, Maryland. This state-of-the-art, 245,000-square-foot facility serves 1,000 students as Baltimore County’s only magnet high school for the arts. Certified LEED Silver, the project integrates sustainable design elements such as geothermal heating.

DWK’s geotechnical investigation and recommendations addressed significant challenges, including the need for 10 to 15 feet of cuts and fills to achieve the required building grades.

The design also encompassed new retaining walls, athletic fields, courts, parking areas, and a stormwater management pond. DWK provided tailored solutions, including recommendations for spread footings on compacted structural fill, the reuse of on-site soils, and the incorporation of crushed concrete from the existing building as structural fill.

These efforts ensured the project met its complex site requirements, resulting in a modern, sustainable facility that serves the arts, academics, and the broader community.
